The Last Apprentice Movie, Updated 6/20/2009

I reposted this from my former blog because of the feedback still coming in for my previous blog, and I feel kinda a douche for not replying.

It's gonna be directed by Kevin Lima, the director of Enchanted.. That worries me some, seeing as how Enchanted was a horrible movie...

"Other Spook news... July 2008 sees the release of the fifth title in the Spook’s series, The Spook’s Mistake. There will be a Spook’s £1 book for World Book Day next year, and the publishing programme which includes two new titles in 2009, extends into 2010."

Ok, to those that ask for updates, here we go! Directly from the Spook's Movie Blog , here is the latest stuff as they post it. This is the same entry as it was a few months ago, so that has me pretty worried. Either they stalled production or they're just lazy and forgot about the site that nobody reads. Seriously, I think my blog gets more user views than this site! And if you're one of the few readers, then you know what I'm talking about...

"Random House Children’s Books is delighted to announce that a film of The Spook’s Apprentice will be directed by Kevin Lima, who directed last year’s family blockbuster movie Enchanted.

Lima and his team hope to start work later this year on the adaptation of the book, which is about a 13-year-old boy who learns to be an exorcist from a forbidding old spook. Warner Brothers and Legendary are co-producing and co-financing along with Thunder Road. Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk is producing with Lionel Wigram and Lima’s producing partner, Chris Chase. The executive producer is Alysia Cotter.

Lionel Wigram and Basil Iwanyk comment: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Kevin Lima on board, as well as being a great film-maker, he loves the books as much as we do and has a profound understanding of how to translate them to the big screen.”

The deal was brokered by Charlotte Knight at the Rod Hall Agency in London on behalf of Random House Children’s Books in the UK.

Author, Joseph Delaney, comments: “I’m thrilled and delighted to hear that the creator of the excellent Enchanted is to direct the film adaptation of my book, The Spook’s Apprentice. It’s brilliant news!”

Great news for anyone who might have been concerned that the Spook’s Apprentice film might not live up to the scary nature of the book. It has been confirmed that the screenplay will be written by Matt Greenberg - a man who is no stranger to scary films, having written screenplays for the Stephen King film 1408 (starring John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson) and Halloween H20 (starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Josh Hartnett).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There hasn't been any news about the movie since June of last year.
imdb isn't even turning up any search results for this movie. I'm led to believe that they cancelled this whole damn thing because the latest post on the film blog isn't even about the film, it's about the promotional tour of the 6th book.
Speaking of the 6th book, I'm really looking forward to that, cause it's been a few months since I read something awesome outside of graphic novels...
Arkham Asylum Demo [Updated!]
I've played it a few times now, so I'm pretty well known among the store employees as 'the guy who comes in and plays the Arkham Asylum demo for a few hours.'
It's popped up in Canada as well as the US, and I play it at FutureShop and Gamestop. It's not yet available for public download, and those employees won't succumb to my bribes and constant haranguing for an extra code or something for my own PS3.
I do hope that it'll be available soon on the PSN because my games appear bland now that I've gotten my hands on Arkham Asylum.
Here's a little review of the demo.
I've only been able to play 2 challenge modes, though there are people around the net saying that there are 2 more which are concentrated on the predator/stealth gameplay style. I've played the outright brawling challenge rooms, called Intensive Care and Intensive Care Extreme,
Intensive Care lasts 4 rounds, and it's pretty easy. You just beat the crap out of Joker's thugs and try to do it in a stylish and devastating fashion. I've just figured out how to use the Freeflow combat system, so I'm gonna be glad to incorporate that next time I go play.
[Freeflow combat is like a combo system. After 3 successful attacks, you go for unlimited combos, but when you get hit or stop whacking, your combo expires.]
Intensive Care [Extreme] is harder. Also 4 rounds, but Mr. Zsasz appears in the last round!
You get bonus points for not getting hit at all (called The Dark Knight Bonus), and lasting all rounds without getting hit (The Perfect Knight Bonus) and for using batarangs (variation bonus).
Controls are pretty simple. Square for attack, Triangle for counter-attack, Circle for stun, and X for running[hold it down] (XX for dodging). Batarang aiming is L1, and R1 fires it. [The batarang is more of a stunning weapon. I threw them at one guy for half an hour and he just fell down and clutched his head each time] L2 activates Detective Mode, which is really cool. It showed me what weapons they were carrying, and the videos online show that Detective Mode can also be used to see their pulse rate, and their condition. Condition meaning whether they're scared or nervous, unconscious or dead...
The combat is fast and fluid, and the minimalist controls ensure that this isn't a total button mashing fest. When each punch connects, it's brutal and reminiscent of Watchmen: The End Is Nigh combat.
You don't appreciate it as much without sound, because you hear an incredibly satisfying thud everytime you connect a punch.
Graphics are beautiful, no lag at all in the demo. Not even when lots of enemies crown the screen and the constant movement of Batman's cape. Which is beautiful in it's own right, by the way. It's like how you would expect a CGI version of Spawn's cape will be like, but a little more toned down cause it's just a normal cape, not a demon cape...
I look forward to playing it again, because it's all I've got since the game has been delayed to late Summer.
Yo Gabba Gabba
Call me immature, go ahead, all the teachers do.
I may be childish, but I know an awesome thing when I see one, wether it be from gore filled video games or Treehouse TV... And my latest obsession is from Treehouse TV or Nick Jr., whatever you prefer.
Yo Gabba Gabba is chock full of indie-ness, from the design all the way up to the music.
And I'm an indie supporter all the way! I love this show, and even though it can be completely stupid at times, I seriously advice to watch it.
If you're depressed, watch it. It'll cheer you up!
Wolverine Tonight
I've read a few reviews, and about 40% say it's great. So I don't know what to expect, so I'll just walk in there and hope to see lots of people get cut up and things blown up...
Restored Template
Now I know to back up my templates, I don't wanna go through that crap again.
Old template is back, and from now on, I think I;ll stick to my own HTML programming, not third party templates that endangers all my widgets.
Doh!
Ahh, yesterday was 4/20, I can't believe I missed out on the pot fueled hilarity on the Playstation Network!
....Uhrm... Just a note: I'm not a pothead, it's just funny being around them online, but probably not so in real life. You can smoke yourself to hell for all I care, but I don't condone pot smoking, hahah.
Hmph, must find way to remove signature from my email carrier. Makes it look like I have ads. I hate ads.
Mobile Blogging Test
All right, I've just activated email blogging so that I can access Blogger from my PSP without having to try and register a mobile phone.
If this message appears in my blog, then obviously, it worked!
Blog Design
My blog is just beginning to develop here, but you get a pretty clear impression of what it should look like when I'm done. The Twitter RSS feed on the side is experimental, as on my PSP I dole out lots of Tweets in a few minutes, and the RSS feed is a tad slow. I guess all feeds are like that, so it should update. Eventually.
As for blog headers, the current Decepticon header is just testing how my old headers would look on this site, but I might have to modify my style to fit in with my sleeker blog interface.
A New Day
For those of you unfamiliar with me as an online presence (about 99% of you), I’m Argel319, the former host of http://argel319.tblog.com! I have a blog already, you say? Well I said that too, but you can never have too many blogs, especially a blog synchronized with your Twitter!
This will be my new haven to tell you stuff that you can find on thousands of other more reliable sites, but stick around here anyways for humor that you can find on hundreds of other sites!
The Twitter sidebar will be my connection to this blog on the weekends, as I’m super busy but not busy enough to stop me from Twittering on my PSP… On this blog, you’ll find movie reviews, game demo reviews (Only for Playstation 3, though), and a wide variety of random blurts and a constantly changing blog header.
Thanks for reading, don’t forget to close the window or tab on your way out!
